It's Always Been You

By Khalilah Shelton

As a military family, we move around quite often. There are times when I wonder what God is doing and what He wants from me. I wonder why He chose this lifestyle for us, for me. He always reminds me that no matter where we find ourselves, He is always with us. His goodness and mercy are following us all the days of our lives. This poem reminds me of this truth. I pray it encourages you on your journey as well.

I get lost sometimes.

I know my way and the paths are familiar but, where am I?

The fork in the road forces a decision; follow You or follow me.

Circumstances lead me down paths unknown.

Sorrows palpitate my heart tumbling it down paths of anguish,

Then happiness jerks it towards joy and light, the pain lifts.

But who can steady its beat?

Is it You?

When I have to relocate my affections in places unknown and leave my dearest loved ones at a distance, I wonder "is it worth the cost?"

Who will hold me up?

Is it You?

I lift up my eyes, past the hills, my strength comes from You.

I look at the stars and ask, "Who is greater than You?"

Then I see crooked paths becoming straight,

Your hand's provision, faithful, great,

And I realize, it's always been You.
