Counting Your Blessings in 2025

Happy New Year!!!
It’s 2025 and we have been blessed to see it! A new year can be exciting as we anticipate fresh starts, new goals, and plans to experience different things. Many of you may have set new year’s resolutions and have purposed to complete them. Some of you may be like me and haven’t set any traditional goals because you don’t know what to do and you don’t want to fail. On the other side, a new year can be daunting. Some may be bringing with them heaviness from 2024 and a fear of what lies ahead.
As I prayed regarding what to write about for this article, through a song, the Lord led me to the topic Counting Your Blessings in 2025. Inspired by the song “Counting My Blessings,” by Seph Schlueter, I couldn’t shake the thought that I wanted to thank the Lord more this year. Recalling God’s goodness and giving thanks is something that is clear in scripture. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 says, “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” I love that scripture puts “in all circumstances.” This leaves us without excuse!
No matter where you might find yourself as you read this, the Lord has been good to you and He deserves a “Thank Ya Jesus!” If 2025 has opened well for you and you are doing great on your resolutions, praise the Lord for HIS help. If you’ve already slipped up and missed some of your goals or plans, praise the Lord that His mercies are new every morning and ask for His wisdom and help. If you find yourself in a hard place as you contemplate the days ahead in 2025, thank the Lord that He is always near to you (Psalms 34:18), and that He works out ALL things for our good and His glory (Romans 8:28).
Counting your blessings and giving thanks can be as simple as being appreciative for breath in your lungs, the ability to think and move, and a relationship with God through Jesus. It could also be specific to how God has met a need you’ve prayed for or how you have seen him work in others’ lives. When we take the time to consider all that God has done, there is always a reason to thank Him. And when we take our gaze off our circumstances or situations and put our focus on the ONE who is in control and knows all about us, we find hope, peace, strength, and joy.
So, I ask you to consider joining me on a journey in 2025 to count your blessings. Each day, find a reason to thank the Lord. Don’t let your circumstances, whether good or difficult, stop you. Ask the Lord to show you each day, HIS goodness and faithfulness in your life in 2025. Write them down, start a blessings jar, or just stop and say, “thank you!”
